Insurance can feel like the least exciting part of prep, but it's essential — and once you understand the basics, it's straightforward. Here's what you need to know.

What is a COI?

A Certificate of Insurance (COI) is a document from your insurance provider that proves you have coverage. Most rental houses, including us, require a COI before equipment leaves the building.

Your COI should list Media Box Inc. as an Additional Insured and include Loss Payee language. We'll walk you through exactly what we need when you book.

Do I need my own policy?

If you're renting regularly, yes. An annual production insurance policy is the most cost-effective route. If you're just starting out or renting infrequently, many productions will add you to their policy, or you can purchase short-term coverage for a specific rental.

What does it cost?

Short-term coverage typically runs 7-10% of the total rental value. Annual policies vary based on your coverage needs, but they pay for themselves quickly if you're renting more than a few times a year.

Questions? Call us. We're happy to walk you through the process or connect you with providers we trust.
